Schulman Associates IRB can serve as the research ethics board (REB) of record for multi-site research studies involving human subjects that take place in both the United States and Canada. Currently, Schulman's Board meets to review protocols with Canadian sites only on Fridays.
Because of provincial regulations, Schulman's Board does not provide oversight for research sites in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador. Additionally, Schulman is not able to review research sites in Nova Scotia that are located in the Capital District Health Authority's jurisdiction.
In Québec, Schulman will only review research that involves adults with capacity to consent. For sites in Québec, Schulman will automatically translate the English version of the informed consent document into Canadian French. (Standard translation fees apply.)
Canadian sites: Schulman does not consider individuals that speak French as part of this Vulnerable group.
